Where are you from?
Martinsburg, West Virginia
How did you get into rucking?
After having a back injury at work a few years back, I put my physical fitness first. I started running, bike riding, and weight lifting. My buddy James introduced me to rucking about 2 months ago.
Why do you ruck:?
It gives me a tough, low impact workout that adds variety to my training without beating up my joints. It also gives me a mental reset.
Favorite ruck so far:
It's a tossup between the Extortion 17 (keeping in mind the heavy meaning of that event), and the 250th (because America!)
What is the hardest lesson you've learned on a ruck?
I've learned that my body screams to quit long before I've actually hit my limit. The only way through is to let my mind take over and trust my feet will follow.
What is your go-to ruck setup?
My first ruck was right after I signed up. So I used my old plate carrier with steel plates, with pouches, and other utility items I carry in my kit. I chose the Solomon X Ultra Forces mid rise boot. I added the CamelBak Armorbak 3L Tactical Hydration Pack.
What is your advice for new ruckers?
Just start. You won't know what you're doing or probably even what your goals are with this. That will become more clear in time. Just lace up your boots and get out there.
What is the next event you are training for?
My goal in training isn't for an event; it's to stay healthy and fit for my job and family.
Fun fact about you outside of rucking:
I am a WWII history nerd researching my grandfathers unit, and others to keep their memories alive. I have a museum of gear and equipment in my garage, and I drive my 1945 Willy's MB to the grocery store from time to time.
