Name: Sebastian Søndergaard, Captain in the Danish Army
How did you get into rucking?
Started rucking in the army. Part of the job. But I got hooked on the mental game, when your body are completely done, but you still keep going.
Why do you ruck?
Rucking helps me cope with my mental health side of things. It makes me feel good about myself, it pushes me to be better. Rucking also open more opportunities as far as reaching out to bigger community and events.
What has been your favorite ruck so far?
My favorite ruck is the 4 day nijmegen march in Holland. It is a must when you like rucking.
What is the hardest lesson you've learned on a ruck?
The hardest lesson is how quick your mindset will fall when you walk alone at night, and you get a small crisis.
What is your go-to ruck setup?
I really dont have a go to setup. I just use what the army have given me. But i tape up my feet before starting the march, a camelbak and 10kg in the ruck (reguirement to nijmegen).
What advice would you give to a new rucker?
My advise is to get your head in the game. Alot of new ruckers has focus on the pain and the hardship. If you focus on this, you will quit after 10 or 20 miles.
Embrace the suck. Its gonna hurt and its normal. Look up and enjoy the trip. Don't look down on the asphalt when you are tired.
What is the next event you're training for?
I dont have any new event lined up. yet. Im more the kind of guy who see a crazy event with a limited timeframe to train and I just go for it.
What is a fun fact about you outside of rucking?
Fun fact. I do things I'm afraid of or don't think I can complete. If you don't try you never complete.
Afraid of heights. Jumped of a plane with parachute.
Could run 5km. Signed up for 100miles run and completed it 8 month later. (Hate running but I love a challenge)
