Name: Robert Macaraeg
Where are you from? Southern New Hampshire
How did you get into rucking?
Boy Scouts, the US Army, and staying fit after retiring.
What has been your favorite ruck so far?
Tough Ruck, Norwegian Foot March, and my first 12-miler at the end of basic training;)
What is the hardest lesson you've learned on a ruck?
Plan and train. Foot care as you get older, and lifting for strength. I am not a young man anymore. Moleskin is mandatory for over 12 miles.
What is your go-to ruck setup?
Dress for the weather. A single 25-pound plate mounted high in my ruck, kept close to my back.
What advice would you give to a new rucker?
Rucking is a part of a fitness plan. You have to lift/strength train, stretch, run, eat healthy, and recover/sleep. Rucking is the icing on the cake for the mental side of fitness. Most people look at me in awe when I say I rucked 18 miles with 25 pounds on my back, and I tell them it is easy.
What is the next event you're training for?
Norwegian Foot March (second silver award)
What is a fun fact about you outside of rucking?
I took bronze at the slalom race on a snowboard at the national championships.
