Name: Brandon Philip Franklin
Where are you from? I'm originally from West Chester, Ohio, and I'm currently stationed at Fort Meade, Maryland.
How did you get into rucking?
I got more involved in rucking during the summer of 2025 while mentoring a Soldier during our military funeral honors cycle. We started out working together in the gym, and one day he asked me to join him for a ruck. That eventually grew into a meetup every other week, open to anyone at Fort Meade.
Why do you ruck?
I find it peaceful. It gives me time to clear my head, enjoy being outside, and focus on putting one foot in front of the other.
Favorite ruck so far?
My favorite was the Bataan Memorial Death March in 2023, which I completed virtually in Warren County, Ohio. I ended up hitchhiking home afterward, which made it even more memorable!
What is the hardest lesson you've learned on a ruck?
Have support lined up for long-distance rucks. Planning how you'll get water, get help if needed, and get home is just as important as preparing for the miles.
What is your go-to ruck setup?
I love my OCP medium ruck. It's my go-to pack.
What is your advice for new ruckers?
Start slow and stay consistent. Build your distance and weight gradually, and give yourself time to improve.
What is the next event you are training for?
The 2027 Bataan Memorial Death March.
What is a fun fact about you?
I enjoy taking road trips without a set destination. Sometimes the best part is seeing where the road takes you.
