Ruck Hack: Packing Your Ruck
Share
Pack your heaviest items high and close to your back.
A common mistake is placing all the weight at the very bottom of the pack, but that forces the load to pull backward on your shoulders and lower back, making every step feel harder than it needs to.
When packing your ruck, keep your heaviest items:
-
Between your shoulder blades
-
As close to your spine as possible
-
Packed tightly so they don't shift while you walk
Lighter or bulkier items, like extra clothing or rain gear, can go toward the bottom or outside of the pack. Positioning your weight this way keeps your center of gravity closer to your body, improves balance, reduces strain on your back, and can make the same load feel noticeably lighter over long distances.
A few extra minutes spent packing your ruck the right way can make the difference between finishing comfortably and fighting your pack every mile.
