Ruck Hack: Nothing New

One of the most overlooked keys to a successful ruck has nothing to do with distance or weight, it's familiarity. Small changes that seem insignificant at the start can become major annoyances after several hours on the trail. A different pair of socks, a new shirt, or moving your weight around in your pack can turn an otherwise great day into a miserable one.

Train with the exact setup you plan to use on event day. Wear the same shoes and socks, use the same hydration and nutrition plan, and pack your weight in the same position. If you're using anti-chafe products, trekking poles, or other gear, make sure you've tested them during training rather than introducing them for the first time at the event.

Most problems during a long ruck aren't caused by the miles themselves, they're caused by something unfamiliar. The more you can make event day feel like just another training session, the more comfortable and enjoyable those miles will be.
