Ruck Hack: Break it into Miles

Ruck Hack: Break it into miles

A long ruck can feel overwhelming when you think about the entire distance at once. Twenty miles sounds like twenty miles. Forty miles sounds like a lot more. When you're staring down a big distance, it's easy to get caught up thinking about how far you still have to go.

Instead, break it down. Don't focus on the miles you have left—focus on the mile you're in. Set smaller goals along the way: make it to the next mile marker, checkpoint, landmark, or rest stop. Once you reach it, pick the next one. If you need to, break it down even further and focus on getting through the next half-mile or the next stretch of road.

This approach doesn't make the miles disappear, but it makes them feel manageable. You're not trying to conquer 20 or 40 miles all at once. You're simply putting one foot in front of the other and reaching the next milestone. Before long, those individual miles start adding up, and the finish line gets closer with every step.

Don't worry about the miles ahead. Conquer the mile you're in.

Stay rucking tough!
